Install Dochly from Salesforce AppExchange
Prerequisites
Confirm all four requirements before starting the installation. Missing any of these is the most common reason for installation failures or incomplete setups.
-
1Salesforce System Administrator profile — you must have System Administrator access to your Salesforce org to install AppExchange packages. A standard user or custom profile with limited admin permissions is not sufficient.
-
2Active Salesforce org — Dochly supports Salesforce Professional, Enterprise, Unlimited, and Developer editions. It is not supported on Group Edition. Confirm your edition in Setup → Company Information.
-
3AppExchange account — you need a Salesforce.com login to install from AppExchange. This is typically the same login as your Salesforce org. If your org uses SSO, ensure you can also authenticate directly with Salesforce.com credentials.
-
4Available licenses — confirm you have available Salesforce user licenses for the users who will use Dochly. Installation itself doesn't require additional licenses, but user assignment after install does.
Recommended: Install in a sandbox first. If your org has a sandbox environment, install and test Dochly there before installing in production. See Installing in a sandbox first at the bottom of this guide.
Installation options
During installation, Salesforce will ask you to choose who the package is installed for. Choose the right option for your org before starting — you can change this later but it's easier to get it right during the initial install.
Install for Admins Only
Install the package only for users with System Administrator profile. Best practice for initial setup — you can grant access to additional profiles and permission sets after configuration is complete.
Install for All Users
Makes Dochly immediately available to all users in the org. Only recommended if you have already planned your permission model and are ready for immediate org-wide rollout.
Install for Specific Profiles
Choose specific profiles during installation. Use this if you know exactly which user groups need Dochly access and want to configure permissions during the install step.
Install in Sandbox First
Log in to your sandbox org on AppExchange and install there first. Test the full workflow before installing in production. Strongly recommended for Enterprise and Unlimited orgs.
Step-by-step installation
Find Dochly on AppExchange
Go to Dochly on Salesforce AppExchange or search "Dochly" in the AppExchange search bar. You can also navigate to AppExchange from within Salesforce Setup → AppExchange Marketplace.
Confirm you're on the correct listing: Dochly by UTECH HUB. Check the listing shows "Free to install" and "Native Salesforce app" before proceeding.
Start the installation
Click Get It Now on the Dochly AppExchange listing. You will be prompted to log in with your Salesforce credentials if you are not already logged in.
Select the org you want to install Dochly into — either your production org or a sandbox. If you have multiple orgs, confirm you are selecting the correct one before proceeding.
Choose installation type
On the installation screen, you will be asked who to install the package for:
- Select "Install for Admins Only" for initial setup (recommended)
- You can grant access to additional profiles after installation is complete
Review the package components list — this shows all the objects, tabs, and classes that Dochly installs into your org. Click Install to proceed.
Approve third-party access (if prompted)
Some AppExchange installations require you to approve access to remote sites. If a dialog appears asking you to approve access, check the checkbox and click Continue. This allows Dochly's package components to function correctly within Salesforce's trusted network.
Dochly is a 100% native Salesforce app — no data leaves your Salesforce org. Any remote site approval in this step is for internal Salesforce platform communication only, not for external third-party servers.
Wait for installation to complete
Installation typically takes 1–3 minutes. Salesforce will show a progress indicator. For larger orgs with complex metadata, it may take up to 10 minutes.
You will receive an email to your Salesforce admin email address confirming when the installation is complete. You can also check the status in Salesforce Setup → Installed Packages.
Verify the installation
Once the installation email arrives, verify Dochly is correctly installed:
- Go to Salesforce Setup → Installed Packages
- Confirm "Dochly" appears in the list with Status = Installed
- Check the version number matches the latest release on AppExchange
- Open the App Launcher (9-dot grid) and search for "Dochly" — the Dochly app should appear
Post-install steps
Installation puts Dochly in your org. These post-install steps complete the setup and make Dochly ready for use.
- Assign the Dochly permission set — go to Setup → Permission Sets → Dochly User. Assign this permission set to every user who needs to generate documents. Without it, users will see Dochly in the App Launcher but cannot access the features.
- Add Dochly to your navigation bar — in the Dochly app, users can pin it to their navigation bar for quick access. Admins can configure the navigation bar in the Lightning App Builder for their user profiles.
- Connect Dochly to your org settings — the next step in the getting started series. See Connect Dochly to your Salesforce org for the full configuration walkthrough.
- Run the quick start checklist — the Dochly quick start checklist gives you a structured view of every step from install to first generated document.
Installing in a sandbox first
For Enterprise and Unlimited edition orgs, installing in a sandbox before production is strongly recommended. It lets you test the full setup — permissions, templates, generation workflows, and e-signature — before exposing anything to your live org and live users.
Full installation, permission set assignment, template building, document generation testing, Flow trigger testing, and e-signature workflow testing — all in a safe environment with no impact on production data.
Templates built in sandbox don't automatically transfer to production. You'll need to rebuild them in production — or use Salesforce Change Sets or metadata tools to deploy them. Plan for this before your production go-live date.
To install in a sandbox: on the AppExchange listing, click Get It Now and when selecting the org, choose your sandbox rather than your production org. The installation process is identical — the only difference is which org you authenticate into.
