Apply Conditional Formatting to Documents in Salesforce with Dochly

Conditional formatting — automatically changing a document's colour, bold, or borders based on Salesforce field values — is not currently a Dochly feature. This page explains that plainly and points you to what Dochly does support today for adapting document content to field values: conditionally showing or hiding entire sections or text blocks.

Conditional formatting isn't currently supported

There is no feature in Dochly that changes an element's font colour, bold/weight, background colour, or border based on a condition. There's no "Apply Formatting" action in the conditional logic panel, no hex colour code entry tied to a condition, and no way to colour-code table rows or cells based on Salesforce field values.

If you've seen this described elsewhere, or were looking for a way to do it, it isn't available in Dochly today. This page has been corrected to avoid describing a feature that doesn't exist.

What's supported instead

Dochly's conditional logic can control whether content appears at all — but not how it looks. If your goal is to make a document adapt to Salesforce field values, the closest supported capability is conditionally showing or hiding entire sections or text blocks:

Show or hide sections

Show or hide an entire section, paragraph, or block of a document template based on a Salesforce field value — for example, only including a late-payment clause when an invoice is overdue. See Show or hide document sections based on Salesforce fields.

If/else conditions

Show one block of content when a condition is true, and a different block when it's false — for example, different wording for "Paid" versus "Overdue" — using plain text rather than colour to communicate the distinction. See Use if/else conditions in a Dochly document template.

In practice, this means you can't colour an overdue invoice row red, but you can make sure the word "Overdue" (or a clause about late payment) only appears on the document when it's actually overdue — achieving the same communication goal through content rather than colour.

Frequently asked questions

No. There's no formatting action in Dochly's conditional logic tools today. The styling of text, cells, and borders in a template is fixed when you design the template, and doesn't change based on the record being generated.
